Dear Friends,
On January 29, our Catholic schools will join thousands of schools across the nation for the annual celebration of Catholic Schools Week. Catholic Schools Week is a time to reaffirm the spiritual value of all children in the eyes of God. . . to encourage students to reach for academic achievement. . . to recognize families for their sacrifices on behalf of their children’s education. . . and to thank administrators, teachers and staff for their professionalism.
This year’s theme is: Catholic Schools: Faith. Academics. Service. With these five words, the theme expresses what makes our schools stand out in a crowd.
- In a Catholic school, children learn faith – not just the basics, but how to have a relationship with God.
- Students benefit from high academic standards, inspiring each to reach his or her potential.
- Every child learns the importance of service, as an expression of faith and a mark of good citizenship.
With faith, academics and service, we prepare students for meaningful lives in the family, in the community, and our church.
Long before I was a Superintendent of Schools, however, I was a teacher. In the classroom, I learned that students learn best when learning is fun. As a surprise to me, I’ve learned that a virtual Catholic Schools Week project is in the works. I’ve become a “Flat Stanley.”
The purpose of this blog is to share some fun and creativity during Catholic Schools Week 2012. I understand that schools and classrooms will be posting here to tell the story of “Where in the World Is Flat Dr. Dan?”
I’m flat out amazed. . .
Happy Catholic Schools Week,
Flat Dr. Dan Peters
